Eight years ago, the United States experienced an unforgettable electoral disaster. For a month thousands of people recounted ballots. Four years later, the same thing happened in Ohio.

“A storm is brewing in the United States. The turnout at the poll promises to beat all the records. But the number of electoral checks will be insufficient and the electoral process is at the edge of the abyss”. Like the Pew Research Center of Washington, lots of observers and politicians fear new problems.

And problems have begun with early voters. They concern voting machines. Some people complained that they are not sure they have voted for the candidate of their choice. The name of the candidate and the box in the ballot are sometimes not very well lined up.

Both political parties have begun to fight these problems. They are also ready to face them Election Day. Republicans and Democrats have lined up thousands of people. For example Barack Obama has hired 10,000 lawyers ! They will be in polling stations and in courts in order to start  legal proceedings at the drop of a hat.
Some proceedings have already been instituted concerning people not being on the electoral lists. Some complained that they have been purposefully removed.

Today both parties have set up special phone lines for their voters. There will also be special TV channels which will  focus on electoral irregularities.

Soon we'll know if the US has learned from its previous mistakes. Maybe the next President will do something about it.
