Barack Obama IS President but let’s continue our tour in the last states to vote. McCain has won in his home state, Arizona (10 electoral votes). And Obama has captured the other states: Colorado (9), Hawaii (4), Nevada (5). Above all, the new President took back Florida from the Republicans, who won the state in 2000, thanks to Jeb Bush. Total: 338 for Barack Obama, 157 for John McCain. >> lire la suite

McCain is a fair player

The Republican candidate recognized his defeat and congratulated Barack Obama for his victory. He even said that he admired Illinois’ Senator and that this election was a historical moment for all the people, but also for blacks: “I realize that this election is a special moment for the Afro-American community.” He also told his supporters that he is responsible for the defeat: “It’s my defeat, not yours”, even if he acknowledged that he didn’t know what else he could have done to win this election. As a conclusion, he also promised to help Barack Obama to improve the situation in a country they both love. >> lire la suite

In Virginia, a major swing state, Obama wins 13 electoral votes. He comes closer to victory. In South Dakota, John McCain gets 3 electoral votes. Anyway, it seems Obama may soon have his face on Mount Rushmore, along with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. According to his spokesman, George « Invisible Man » Bush decided to stay mute tonight. Joe Biden has been reelected to the Senate. If Obama wins, he will have to give up his seat as Senator for Delaware. >> lire la suite

Among useless states: Utah (5) and Nebraska (5) -in spite of Bruce Springsteen's support for Obama- for John McCain and Iowa (7) for Barack Obama. In Utah, the Mormons are having a party, drinking soda. In Iowa, the rednecks are beginning to throw up their warm beer. Total: 207 for the Democrat and 139 for the Republican. >> lire la suite

Louisiana swings for the Republican (9 electoral votes). The storm Katrina didn’t change the election in this state, traditionally conservative. Mississippi made the same choice. Tom Sawyer is going back to his tomb. Total: 200 for Barack Obama and 134 for John McCain.  In the Congress, Democrats now have a real majority, with 51 senators. They don’t have to rely on the two independents. >> lire la suite

Record participation rate !

In the "swing states", the participation rate reached the highest level ever : nearly 135 million people (almost 50%) had voted Tuesday at midnight, whereas in 2004, "only" 120 million people had gone to the polls. In spite of this very high level of participation, very few technical problems were pointed out in Florida, Missouri, Ohio (which had a participation close to 80%) or Virginia (more than 40%). In North Carolina, too, the participation rate is a record, estimated to be close to 70%. >> lire la suite

John McCain wins Wyoming (3 electoral votes), North Dakota (3), Kansas (6) and Idaho (4). Meanwhile, Minnesota (10), Wisconsin (10), Michigan (17), Rhode Island (4) and New Mexico (5) give their vote to Barack Obama. New York, the only educated state which makes America a civilized country, has obviously chosen Barack Obaaama who has won 31 smart electoral voters. Just in: Cowboys in Texas have chosen their chief McCain (34) and Ohio (20), a swing state, stands up for Obama. Total: 200 for the Best of us and 119 for the Worst of us. We already miss Bushie but Florida is still a tossup… >> lire la suite
