After Barack Obama’s victory, what should John McCain’s future be? In his concession speech, he declared he would “remain America’s servant”. Now, the question is how he will do it. Here are some examples of the life of former losers of the presidential race.

DO

Learn perseverance. In the history of American presidential election, a few losers ran for the presidency a second time, despite their earlier bid. The second president of the US, John Adams, won the 1792 election. George Washington had defeated him in 1789.
The same happened to Richard Nixon, the unsuccessful Republican candidate of 1960. This beautiful loser in 1960 won twice in 1968 and 1972. In some cases, perseverance is the key to success.
Become a world ecology star. Get trendy, join the fight for ecology! Imagine : a Nobel prize, a lot of friends from Hollywood, and the admiration of the whole world… In 2000, Al Gore lost the election. Seven years later, he came back, with a movie, “An inconvenient truth”, and traveled all around the world. In every country, he’s welcomed like… the president of one of the biggest countries. Sounds like the revenge of the beautiful loser, doesn’t it?
Become a Disney character. One of Donald Duck’s nephews was named “Dewey”. It refers to the unsuccessful Republican candidate Thomas E. Dewey. Children are the adults, so the voters of the future. Think about it.

DON'T

Don’t Persevere too much. After two failed attempts to become the President of the United states, don’t try any more, if you don’t want to be a real loser. One of the champions in this category was George McGovern. After the 1972 election (Nixon’s second victory), the Democrat candidate attempted a comeback for the 1984 Primaries. He just picked up 4 votes at the Democratic Convention. No matter. In 1992, he considered another run for the White House, but finally renounced. And what about Ralph nader? 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, he is also now very familiar with presidential campaigns…
Don’t always express your personal views. You like Britney Spears and Pepsi Cola? It’s not a reason to make a commercial, as Bob Dole did…

“What do you think about UFOs?” Honestly, you don’t really have to answer. In 1988, asked by Larry King, Barry Goldwater answered: “ I certainly believe in aliens in space. They may not look like us, but I have very strong feelings that they have advanced beyond our mental capabilities…” Wow, Freaky!
