In the "swing states", the participation rate reached the highest level ever : nearly 135 million people (almost 50%) had voted Tuesday at midnight, whereas in 2004, "only" 120 million people had gone to the polls.
In spite of this very high level of participation, very few technical problems were pointed out in Florida, Missouri, Ohio (which had a participation close to 80%) or Virginia (more than 40%). In North Carolina, too, the participation rate is a record, estimated to be close to 70%.
